Participants walk in last year's Jefferson County Relay for Life events.

The American Cancer Society of Jefferson County will conduct its Relay For Life event on June 26 and 27 at Jefferson High School Cougar stadium.

Two emotional activities of the events of Relay are the Survivors Lap and the Luminaria Ceremony.

On June 26 at 7 p.m. cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer) from the Jefferson area are invited to walk the first lap of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life to celebrate their victory over cancer. The Survivors Lap will be held at Jefferson High School Cougar Stadium. There is no cost to participate; however, cancer survivors should contact Susie Mechanick, Survivor Activity chair, at (304) 876-3518 to register. Each cancer survivor will receive a free T-shirt to wear while walking the track.

The Luminaria Ceremony begins 9:30 pm. The ceremony Life recognizes those touched by cancer in Jefferson County. Individuals or companies can make contributions in memory of those who have lost their fight with cancer and in honor of those who have survived. Each will be recognized by a lighted luminaria displayed at the Relay For Life event held at Jefferson High Cougar Stadium. Luminaria contributions can be made by contacting Dan and Linda Hart at (304) 725- 5815 or attending Relay and making contributions before 8 p.m. on the evening of June 26.
