Dance fest plans kids events
Several events for kids are scheduled during the Goose Route Dance Festival, which runs through July 26. Dance classes and family shows are offered at no charge and all are invited to participate.
On Saturday, July 18, 9:30 a.m., visiting dance artist Hannah Seidel will teach “Dynamite Dancing” at the War Memorial Building, 102 East German Street, Shepherdstown. Geared for ages 5-9, this class for boys and girls alike will have kids tapping into their own energy, creativity, and curiosity to create their own dances.
On Thursday, July 23, 10:30 a.m. “Water Dance” will take place at the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library Children’s Department. Visiting dance artist Ashley Thorndike will use dance as a way to help kids discover the importance of water in our lives and for the life of the planet.
Family shows are scheduled for Friday, July 17, and Friday, July 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the War Memorial Building. Children of all ages are invited to experience dance by watching dress rehearsals. The “dance scavenger hunt” will be played, where kids and their parents look for special moves and respond with a foot stomp, hand clap, or special yell. Parents needn’t worry that their children won’t sit still; fidgeting is allowed!
All events for children are free of charge. For more information, go to www.gooseroute.org or call (304) 876-6751.
