Annual Elmwood tour slated Aug. 15

By Staff | Aug 7, 2009

Elmwood is located on W.Va. 480 just south of Shepherdstown's town limits.

Who was struck by a coal train, but not injured? What female was captured and imprisoned as a Confederate spy? Why were some upstairs windows lowered in one of our historic buildings?

What movie star was scorned for wearing shorts on the streets of Shepherdstown in the summer of 1940?

The annual “Testimony of the Rocks” Elmwood Cemetery tour is slated Saturday, Aug.15, at 6 p.m. Rain date is Aug. 23. Donation for the upkeep of the cemetery is $10.

This tour will take about an hour. Those interred in the first circle (on the right) inside the main gate will be discussed, as will a few outside the circle. James C. Price, historian laureate of Shepherdstown, will conduct the tour.
