Picnic, concert slated
Everyone is invited to a special Labor Day Weekend picnic and concert in Shepherdstown.
The event will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Rumsey Memorial Park overlooking the Potomac River on Mill Street.
Admission will be free.
The music will begin at 2:30 p.m. and feature performances by the Shepherd University Jazz Combo (2:30-3:45 p.m.), Steve Warner & the Rolling Coyotes (4-5:15 p.m.), Scott Paddock (5:30-7 p.m.), and the Junkyard Saints (7:30-9 p.m.).
Food and beverages will be available for purchase, or people can bring their own picnic baskets. People should also bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. No carry-in alcoholic beverages will be permitted.
Because parking at the Park is very limited, people will be asked to leave their cars in the Shepherd University lot at the intersection of Princess and High Streets and walk the two blocks to the park. Shuttle service between the lot and the Park will be available for those who need it.
The event is being organized by the Shepherdstown Rotary Club and the Shepherdstown Parks and Recreation Committee.
Community sponsors include the following: Platinum Sponsors-Beltway Companies; Jefferson Distributors; Charles Town Races and Slots. Silver Sponsors-Home Hill Companies; BB&T Bank. Bronze Sponsors-Whale of a Wash; Paul Welsh, M.D., Meadow Kidney Care; Bavarian Inn; Canterbury Center; Dr. David Miljour; Warner Productions.
The goal of the event is to provide wholesome, family-oriented entertainment and also to showcase improvements that have been undertaken at the Rumsey Park.
