SFD marks 200+ years of service
The Shepherdstown Fire Department will hold a celebration Saturday in honor of more than 200 years of service by trained volunteers. The events are open to the public.
A firefighters’ parade will kick off at 11 a.m., proceeding along German Street westward to the Fire Department off W.Va. 45. All members past and present are invited to walk or ride in the parade. And the community is invited to show their support by joining in at the end of the parade.
At noon the celebration continues at the fire hall with fire truck rides, light refreshments, games for children and face painting through the afternoon.
At 1 p.m. a flag raising, final placement of 1894 original fire bell, re-dedication of the fire department, a history presentation and open house are planned.
A special 7 p.m. church service at Christ Reformed Church on East German Street includes vespers in thanksgiving for emergency services workers.
