Freedom’s Run: A healthy event for runners, communities

By Staff | Oct 16, 2009

We are so happy we moved to the Shepherdstown area 10 years ago! What a wonderful community of bright, interesting and caring people. And you are never at a loss for finding interesting activities to support or participate in. A prime example of that phenomenon was the recent inagural”Freedom Run.”

The marathon event gave each of us who live in the area (whether that be in Shepherdstown, Harper’s Ferry, or Sharpsburg) an opportunity to support and participate in an activity that was good for your “health (mental and physical) and for your community pride.”

As we witnessed the citizens who came together to make this such a successful event, we felt a real sense of personal pride in living in this community. Others we spoke to voiced the same positive pride.

It was a glorious and beautiful fall day and the marathon proved to be a huge success for all concerned whether you were a participant or just a proud citizen.

Special thanks to Lois Turco and Dr. Mark Cucuzzella (both local Shepherdstown residents) for their vision to conceptualize and plan such a successful event. And thanks also to all the participants and many supporting volunteers. We look forward to next year’s event.
