Shepherd welcomes renowned pianist

The Shepherd University Friends of Music is proud to announce that world renowned pianist Awadagin Pratt will be performing in concert at Shepherd University on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009. The Frank Center curtain goes up at 8 p.m.

Awadagin Pratt has been acclaimed for his musical insight, intensely involving performances and tremendous audience response since his Lincoln Center debut with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1994.

Pratt’s career took off when in 1992 he became the first African-American pianist to win the Naumburg International Piano Competition. Since then, he has performed with nearly every major orchestra in the United States, at the Clinton White House, on Sesame Street, Today, and Good Morning America. He has been profiled on CBS Sunday Morning and was a featured soloist on NPR Performance Today and PBS Live from the Kennedy Center – A Salute to Slava. Pratt is currently an Associate Professor of Piano and Artist in Residence at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.

Pratt has been featured in Newsweek, People, USA Weekend, New York Newsday, Emerge and Mirabella. He was named one of the “50 Leaders of Tomorrow” in Ebony Magazine’s special 50th anniversary issue.
