Local Boy Scout Helps Collect Toys
Local Boy Scout, David Donohue, of Troop 33 in Shepherdstown, is currently conducting a town-wide toy drive in support of Toys for Tots as part of his Eagle Scout project. The drive will run until December 19. Toy collection boxes have been placed at Shepherdstown Elementary School; Jefferson Security Bank branches in Shepherdstown; Wild About Nature; 1, 2 Kangaroo; Lullaby Lu; 4 Seasons Books; Video Den; and the Shepherdstown Fire Department. Those wishing to contribute are asked to place a new, unwrapped toy to one of these locations. In addition, Scouts will be collecting toys during the Shepherdstown Christmas Parade on December 5th.
Toys for Tots received over 3,000 requests for toys in the area during the 2008 Christmas season. This year, it is anticipated that Toys for Tots will provide toys for over 3,500 children in the Eastern Panhandle. Begun in 1947 and expanded nationwide in 1948, Toys for Tots. Since that time, Toys for Tots has distributed over 81 million toys.
