Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department 2009 year in review

By Staff | Jan 8, 2010

The year 2009 was an extremely productive year for the Shepherdstown Fire Department. We closed the year with approximately 330 fire calls and almost 800 E.M.S. calls. In the year 2009 the Shepherdstown Fire Department held a celebration of our 200 plus years of service that was an extremely valuable experience for the community and the members of our organization. We were proficient in placing into service an Advanced Life Support chase vehicle to better support our community and the surrounding communities. Also, to better serve our community, we adapted a “Duty Crew” system to get the apparatus out the door in a timely and proficient manner.

On a prideful note, our Rescue Engine 3 won 1st place in the Apple Blossom Parade in Winchester, Virginia in the category of Custom Rescue Engine (Full Height Compartment).

We look back at the year 2009 with a great deal of pride and that makes us look forward to serving our community in the year 2010. In the year 2010, we look forward to placing into service our new Brush truck, and continuing to provide excellent service to our community.

We enter 2010 with much of the same leadership and drive; Chief- Ross Morgan, Assistant Chief- Craig Simpson, Captain- Brian Fluharty, Fire lieutenant 3-1- Mike Smith. In December we did elect a few new officers. Elected to the position of Fire Lieutenant 3-2 was Zack Morgan and Fire Lieutenant 3-3 was Tim Seible. The Emergency Medical Service Line Officers remained the same. Chief- Micah Kiger, Assistant Chief- Leslie Simpson, Captain- Bob Burner, Lieutenant- Kyle Sneathen.

The administrative officers remain the same with the exception of Secretary which remains vacant at this time. The administrative officers for 2010 are: President- Dave Donohue, Vice President- Dick Clark, Treasurer- Denny Barron, Assistant Treasurer- Danny Marken.

The year 2010 will bring with it new challenges to face and overcome, rest assured that your Shepherdstown Fire Department is prepared to provide the professional, courteous service to our community.

We look forward to serving you and we appreciate your continued support.
