More than 35 members and guests of the Pack Horse Ford Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), celebrated the Chapter’s 94th birthday on Saturday, Feb. 20, during a delicious catered luncheon held in the fellowship hall of Christ Reformed Church in Shepherdstown.

A special honor for the Chapter was when member Polly Wharton and her two sisters, Ginger Shriver and Sue Kesecker presented to the Chapter a large American flag in memory of their mother and former Chapter member, Mary Belle Maddox Merchant. The flag will be used for all Chapter meetings and ceremonies. The gold-plated base that holds the flag is engraved in memory of Mrs. Merchant.

Pack Horse Ford Chapter member Kathy Sholl gave a presentation on Martha Washington since in a few weeks it will be Women’s History Month. Those in attendance received a packet of green tea, a beverage that may have been served at Mount Vernon. A small image of Martha Washington graced the front of the tea bag package.
