Good Friday services slated today in town

Christ Reformed Church is located on East German Street in Shepherdstown.

A Community Good Friday Service will be held at Christ Reformed Church, UCC, April 2 from 12 noon until 3 p.m. The church is located on East German Street in Shepherdstown.

The service will feature meditations on “The Seven Last Words of Christ.” Each “Word” will be commemorated in a 12-minute segment including a Scripture reading, homily by a local minister, prayer, hymns, and silence. Worshipers may come and go as necessary during the service.

The service is sponsored by the Shepherdstown Ministerial Association.

Following are some of the Easter Weekend services and activities planed in the Shepherdstown area.

Sunday, April 4 10:30 a.m. Easter Egg Hunt at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church preceding Easter Worship at 11:00. This is a special Easter Egg Hunt to benefit the ELCA World Hunger Program. For details, call the church office at 304-876-6771.

The Uvilla United Methodist Church will have a Good Friday Service, April 2nd at 7:30 p.m. Ringers for Christ Handbell Choir will perform and special scriptures will be read.

Sunrise Service

Easter Sunday April 4, 6:30 a.m. Informal sunrise service sponsored by Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church at Rumsey Monument, off Mill Street. Bring a reading or song to share. (Dress warmly and bring something to sit on). Light breakfast to follow. Bring breakfast breads or fruit to share.

Shepherdstown Easter Parade. The Shepherdstown Easter Parade will take place on German Street on April 3 at 10 a.m.

In a new twist this year the event will be capped off with an Easter Egg Hunt at Rumsey Park and Monument.

Participation in the parade is welcome from all and festive Easter dress, costumes and hats are encouraged. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of German and Church streets.

Trot down German Street with the Young Majorettes, the Easter Bunny and other cheerful marchers. Several judges stationed in front of the Shepherdstown Library on the parade route will be awarding prizes to the best Easter hats in several different categories.

Categories in different age groups include best boy, girl, adult, family and pet.

Egg hunters should park at White Hall as there will be no parking available at Rumsey. Organizers and volunteers from Shepherdstown Elementary School, The Shepherdstown Visitors Center and the Shepherdstown Business Association and beyond have helped with this year’s event.
