Duffields Station project still needs local support

By Staff | Apr 16, 2010

Duffields Station Inc. has made substantial progress, completing a new roof and stonework stabilization in 2008. Our goal is to fully restore this historic 1839 station as it was during the Civil War, and to that end we are now seeking funding to complete a full restoration plan with the architectural assistance of the Mills Group in Morgantown.

When completed in the future, we plan a small local museum for the structure, which will be open to the public at specified times as we are able to accomplish this with volunteer help.

We need to raise $5200 for the purpose of the planning effort, and have asked for assistance from the Jefferson County Commission, and the West Virginia Community Outreach program. Also, we are seeking to acquire the small privately-owned parcel of land between the historic station and Melvin Road, to complete the land ownership for the station project, and to permit permanent access to the station from Melvin Road.

If you would like to assist us in this effort, please send your tax-deductible donations to Duffields Station Inc., P.O. Box 1806, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.
