19 graduate from Day Care Center
Shepherdstown Day Care Center held its pre-K graduation on Friday, May 21. Nineteen students graduated in this year’s class. During the ceremony, the students sang some of their favorite songs, which included “You Are My Sunshine” and “If I Was an Animal.”
“It is always such an honor to be a part of their lives, and graduation just seems to be a bittersweet time of the year,” said SDC Director Melissa Holman. “We love them all and send them best wishes for a successful new beginning. We are very proud of each graduate and their accomplishments.”
The graduation event was a huge success, thanks to the local families and the community of Shepherdstown, organizers said. They thanked all the individuals who volunteered their time and recognized the following: The Sweet Shop Bakery, Van Tol’s Village Florist, Dairy Queen, Tony’s Pizza, SDC PArent Board Association, The Bavarian Inn, Brandon Gomez, Subway and Chick-Fil-A.
“I could not have had a better support group my first year teaching,” said pre-K teacher Ashley Holben. “My coworkers, families and students have been amazing. Thank you all for your support.”
Jessica Rakes, assistant pre-K teacher, had high praise for a supportive local community.
“It’s been a wonderful year yet again in the pre-K program,” Rakes said. “I am so proud of the little ones and truly honored to have had the opportunity to help these children learn prior to entering kindergarten. None of this would be possible without the unconditional love and support from the community, coworkers and families involved.”
