Celebrate Oktoberfest Sunday at Bavarian
SHEPHERDSTOWN – The crunch of the leaves, the chill in the air and the arrival of Oktoberfest are all reasons to celebrate this weekend.
The Bavarian Inn hosts its 34th annual Oktoberfest from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The original Oktoberfest held in Munich in 1810 was part of a royal wedding ceremony that lasted five days.
There will be German food, desserts, beer, wine, arts, crafts, jewelry and more. Plus, for the younger kinder, there will be a moon bounce, pony rides and face painting.
At 1 p.m., you might hear, “O’zapft is.” That will be the declaration that the beer is tapped. Later you might hear a rousing rendition of Ein prosit der gemutlichkeit, which is a cheerful wish for you to have a happy life.
The Bavarian Dance Club of Washington, D.C., and the Edelweiss band will be on hand to entertain. Don’t worry if your lederhosen or dirndl are at the dry cleaner, come and have some traditional fun.
Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children.
The Bavarian Inn is at 164 Shepherd Grade Road just outside Shepherdstown.
