Editor’s Note: In the weeks approaching the 100th anniversary celebration of The Station at Shepherdstown, The Chronicle will present a train quiz, one question per week until the big day, Oct. 16. Read the quiz and learn more about our beloved train station, the site of many a wedding, concert and party.

Question: Trains changed peoples’ lives. They meant progress, jobs and better, faster communication. In what year were tracks completed that connected New York City, Philadelphia and Shepherdstown?

Answer: 1880. For the first time, mail from those cities arrived the same day it was sent, and newspapers were delivered the same day they were printed
