Shoes to be given away

By Staff | Oct 1, 2010

Four-hundred children are expected to take part in tomorrow’s Freedom’s Run Kid’s Fun Run and complimentary shoes will be given to participants on a first-come, first-serve basis.

This year marks the first year of a partnership between the race and Vivobarefoot Kids, a line of shoes that protect children’s feet but offer the benefits of running bare foot.

“We not only want to promote natural outdoor activity, but we want to instill in parents the importance of letting children’s feet develop in their natural way,” said Dr. Mark Cucuzzella, race director.

The shoes will be handed out at the race headquarters at Two Rivers Treads for children to complete the race in. Also, to reinforce the mission of the race itself, they will be asked to take their family on a hike in each of the region’s national parks: Antietam National Battlefied, the C&O Canal, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and the Potomac Heritage Trail.
