Tomblin names new DHHR cabinet secretary

CHARLESTON – Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced his new Department of Health and Human Resources cabinet secretary.

Dr. Michael Lewis has spent more than 30 years in the medical community and education. Lewis will replace Patsy Hardy as DHHR secretary in early December.

Dr. Lewis earned a medical degree from West Virginia University’s School of Medicine, a doctorate and master’s degree in chemical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Institute of Technology.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lewis has conducted research for the West Virginia Area Health Education Centers, the National Institute on Aging and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
