County, state offices closed

By Staff | Dec 16, 2010

According to an email sent out by Jennifer Maggio of the Jefferson County Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Jefferson County offices will close at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin also asked all state agencies and state offices throughout the state to close at 3 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 16, allowing employees time to get home before driving conditions get worse. This applies to all non-essential state agencies and state employees.

“Although the snow is beginning to taper off, the temperature will continue to fall as the day progresses. As the temperature falls, this will make for very difficult driving conditions, therefore I want to ensure that state employees can make it home safely,” Gov. Tomblin said in a release issued via e-mail.

The governor also stated that state highway crews have been hard at work all day clearing roadways, however, the situation is such now that if people do not need to be out in these conditions, then it would be wise to stay inside.
