Gov. Tomblin selects Shawver to counsel

CHARLESTON – Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced Tuesday the selection of Jeffrey M. Shawver, Esq. to serve as deputy general counsel, replacing Mary Claire Davis.

Davis resigned to take the position of CJA Supervising attorney for the southern district of West Virginia.

Shawver’s appointment is effective immediately.

Shawver practiced law at Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love LLP as part of the Energy – Coal, Oil and Gas Practice Group in addition to Commercial and Financial Services Practice Group. He also served as special assistant to former Gov. Joe Manchin III and to the former General Counsel and Director of Public Division Daniel E. Kimble, Esq.

Shawver is a member of the American Bar Association, the West Virginia Bar Association and the West Virginia State Bar.

A 2008 graduate of West Virginia University College of Law and a 2004 graduate of West Virginia State University, Shawver was selected to the Order of the Coif for outstanding scholarly achievement and contribution to the WVU College of Law.

A native of St. Albans, W.Va., Shawver resides in Charleston with his wife, Amy, and their two children.
