Mayor Jim Auxer swore in Mike King on Jan.3 as a Shepherdstown police officer.
Mike King comes from Hagerstown and has been an officer for almost 30 years. He has worked in a variety of capacities – patrol man, SWAT team, sergeant, detective and lieutenant.
“I have held different positions on a larger force and bring lots of experience,” he said.
For the last six years he has been the head of the Criminal Investigation Division and Narcotics team at the Hagerstown Police Department. He said he was looking for a change.
“That work and those hours are gruelling,” King said.

King had heard what a pleasant community Shepherdstown was and that encouraged him to contact Chief Tim Johnson.
Shepherdstown Police Department has now hired the fourth officer to complete its team.
Johnson and King both look forward to working together. Following the swearing in ceremony, Johnson oriented King to the town.
