Harwood Emory Kidwiler

Harwood Emory “Woody” Kidwiler, 89, of Harpers Ferry, passed away on Jan. 17, 2011 at Shenandoah Center at Charles Town.

Born July 11, 1921, in Bakerton, W.Va., he was the only child of the late Harvie Lee Kidwiler and Ada Dopson Kidwiler.

Woody was employed by the Standard Limestone Co. of Millville, served as a Shepherd College Campus Policeman as well as a policeman for the city of Shepherdstown. In addition, he was an independent farmer and caretaker for the farms of the late Frank Ikard and later for the Henry Willard Farm.

He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church at Bakerton.

Woody was an accomplished musician and once played with country music star, Roy Clark, at a Bakerton event. He was also a well known baseball player throughout the tri-state area.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Charlotte Morrison Kidwiler at home; three daughters, Judith “Judy” Ficklin and husband, Jerry, Myna L. Wandless and husband, Steve, and Linda D. Halter and husband, Rick all of Shepherdstown; one son, Emory “Sonny” Kidwiler and wife, Patricia ” Patty Ann,” of Harpers Ferry; six grandchildren, Dee Ficklin, Jerry David Ficklin II, Mylene Billmyer, Marla Tennant, Ronald Kidwiler and Wayne Kidwiler; 10 great grandchildren, Zachary and Tyler Ficklin, Danielle Smith, Ryan and Holly Kidwiler, Corey McDonald, Elicia Elkins, Casey Billmyer, Stephanie Craze Freeman and Jeffery Craze; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, US 340 at Halltown Road, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry with Chaplain Doug Knupp officiating. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery at Shepherdstown.
