Evelyn Mae Buckwalter obituary

Evelyn Mae Buckwalter, 92, who lived with her daughter, Bonita, and son-in-law, Rolfe, in Shepherdstown, unexpectedly passed away at City Hospital Jan. 31, 2011. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by Bonnie and Pete, her cat, Munchkin, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was born in Newark, Ohio to Vincent Welsh and Marie Christoffersen, and was the widow of George Earl Buckwalter, who died in 1978. She had one sibling, a sister, Marie Magers, of Massillon, Ohio, who died in 2008.

Among her saddened family members are five grandsons, Doug, Derek, Ryan, Scott and David; and seven great grandchildren, Jessica, Daniel, Manning, Megan, Nathan, Kirsten and Caitlyn.

“Gigi” or “Grandma Buck” was known for her beautiful crewel embroideries and her love and support for wounded veterans and homeless and abused animals, especially cats.

A viewing and service was held Feb. 3, 2011 at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry.
