Gary R. “Babe” Dunlevy obituary

Gary R. “Babe” Dunlevy died Feb. 1, 2011 at his residence under the care of the Hospice of the Panhandle. Dunlevy had been born on July 17, 1945 in East Liverpool, Ohio. He was the son of the late Paul Headley Dunlevy and Hazel Marie (Nally) Dunlevy, who has survived her son.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Lynn (Brewer) Dunlevy. They have two daughters, Diane Constantine and husband, Bill, from Fallston, Md. and Dena O’Neill and husband. Kevin. of Harpers Ferry. His grandchildren are Tyler and Ryan Constantine and Meghan, Natalie and Kelly O’Neill.

He is also survived by his sister, Joan Mott, of Chester, W.Va, and brother, Larry Dunlevy and his wife, Kathy, of Douglasville, Ga. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Dunlevy.

Mr. Dunlevy retired after 25 years as a maintenance mechanic at East Alco Aluminum in Buckeystown, Md. He owned and trained thoroughbred race horses in West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. He had been a member of Charles Town Horsemen’s Benevolent Protective Association.

He was also a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Agnes, 216 Duke St., Shepherdstown, on Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. Father Matthew Rowgh will preside.

Friends will be received at the Melvin T. Strider Funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 5.
