Alice Schweinsberg May

Alice Schweinsberg May, 94, formerly of Cloverdale in Charles Town, died Feb. 22. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Dickson W. and Ethel Parsons.

A native West Virginian, Mrs. May was a West Virginia University graduate with a degree in journalism and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the national academic honor society. She was an active volunteer for church, community and service organizations and a member of the Shenandoah Garden Club.

Survivors include husband Allan May, Williamsport, Md.; sister Winona Beneke, Wheeling, W.Va.; daughters Ann Schrauth, Nicholson, Ga., Ellen May, Charles Town, and Ethel Hornbeck, Shepherdstown; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry W. Schweinsberg.

A memorial service will be held at the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Randall Tremba officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mrs. May’s name to the West Virginia University Foundation, One Waterfront Place, 7th Floor, P.O. Box 1650, Morgantown, WV.
