Race for the Birds set for April 9

Hoxton Financial, Inc., a Shepherdstown-based wealth management firm, is the lead local business sponsor for the Potomac Valley Audubon Society’s upcoming Race for the Birds.
The race will be held April 9 at the National Conservation Training Center just outside Shepherdstown.
Hoxton Financial is one of two “Platinum” Level sponsors, who have each contributed more than $1,000. The other sponsor at this level is the “Friends of Mark Benedict,” a group of individuals who sponsor the race each year to honor the memory of Dr. Mark A. Benedict, a local conservation scientist who passed away in 2006.

The April 9 race will include two professionally timed races – one 4.9 miles long and another 7.7 miles long. There will also be a self-timed, 2-mile community jog/walk for families and those who prefer a slower pace, and a 1-mile “Fun Run” for children under 10 years of age.
The two races will begin at 9 a.m. The jog/walk will begin shortly afterwards and the children’s Fun Run will be held at about 10:45 a.m.
The children’s Fun Run will be free. Fees for the other portions of the event will range from $15 to $25. All proceeds will be used to support PVAS’ programs for children, and all fees will be tax deductible.
