Ghana trip scheduled for students

The Department of Contemporary Art and Theater, Shepherd University had planned to take students and community members to Japan in March 2012 and had begun recruiting for the trip prior to the earthquake and tsunami which devastated parts of Japan and continues to negatively impact the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

The department has decided to go east rather than west and will be traveling to Ghana, West Africa in March 2012. The trip contact is Rhonda Smith, who can be reached at rsmith@shepherd.edu or 304-876-5294.

The trip is 10 days from March 7 to 16, at a cost of $3,500.

Program fee includes, round-trip flights, bus transfers, six overnight stays in cabin-style rooms at Kokrobitey Institute, two nights on the Cape Coast, three meals daily, full-time tour director, four experiential sightseeing learning activities, two lectures and select guides and entrances to special attractions as per itinerary.

The Kokrobitey Institute was established to increase understanding of Ghana’s rich culture and history. Activities center around increasing environmental and societal awareness by connecting Ghana with the rest of the world through education and service.
