‘Give my regards to Broadway’ to open
The 4th annual Tuxedo Junction is in final rehearsal for “Give my regards to Broadway” opening Friday, May 6 at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown.
Since premiering in 2008, Tuxedo Junction – a one of a kind evening of big band era nostalgia, elegance, dining, dancing and great times – has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the students of music at Shepherd University. This year the Bavarian Inn will become old Broadway, featuring works from “My Fair Lady,” “The Sound of Music,” “Oklahoma,” “South Pacific,” “Phantom of the Opera” and other great moments in theatre.
The acclaimed Shepherd Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Kurtis Adams, will play legendary favorites. Culinary stations in keeping with the legends and other unique twists and surprises are planned. A silent auction will complete the event.
“Music is our universal language,” said Chair Val Smith in a press release.
“For years Friends of Music has been bringing world-class performances to the community through the talent and leadership of Dr. Mark McCoy and the Shepherd University Department of Music. With every scholarship it awards, with every instrument it buys, every teacher it supports, and with every young ambassador it sends out to dazzle an international audience, Friends of Music speaks this language of good will. The proceeds of Tuxedo Junction go directly toward furthering our mission.”
This year the TJ silent auction will feature a large selection of action-items including proper English tea parties in private homes and at Shaherazade, an elegant dinner party for ten with an eveningfs entertainment by Lisa and Mark McCoy, weekends in Georgetown, weeks in Florida, country club golf packages, Chesapeake fishing excursions, spa treatments, sporting events and many opportunities to get out and make your summer special.
The TJ 2011 planning committee is chaired by Val Smith and includes: Dan Anderson, Alan Gibson, Betty Lou Bryant, Scotty Turner, Mary Ann Hammann, Heather Marshall, Helen and Jack Saum, Monica and Bill Bowen, Linda and Jim Walker, Sandy Spaunagle, Lisa Oswald, Joanna Moomaw, Cindy Schott, Ann Wayt, Alice Barkus, Dolores Lowe, Sue Kennedy and FOM President Neal Barkus.
