Plant sale set

By Staff | Apr 29, 2011

Potomac-Mecklenburg Garden Club members are busy preparing for our annual plant sale which will take place Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to noon in the garden of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown.

Club gardeners and residents supply a selection of unique native plants in addition to popular perennials. Native blue bells, trillium and twin leaf along with asters, cone flowers, bee balm, ferns and hostas will be available from their own gardens. These hometown offerings are supplemented with more perennials, herbs and hanging baskets. Bee friendly plants will be available from a commercial nursery specializing in native varieties.

While making your selections, you’ll have time to chat with other gardeners, gather ideas and ask questions of them.

As you purchase healthy new flowers, shrubs and trees for your spring garden you’ll be contributing to the club’s community gardens as well. Proceeds from the sale, in combination with members’ efforts, are applied to landscaping projects for the Shepherdstown Library, Shepherdstown Day Care Center and Caregivers Center.

Other programs to which we donate include Audubon’s annual fundraiser “This Race Is For the Birds” and books featuring gardening themes to several local schools.

Rain or shine, we look forward to meeting you at the “garden gate” at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 7.
