Preparations finalized for Back Alley Tour and Tea

By Staff | May 12, 2011

With just two weeks to go, the finishing touches are being put on plans for this year’s Back Alley Tour and Tea.

This annual event that engages a large portion of the Shepherdstown community is planned for May 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. Tickets are on sale at the Shepherdstown Sweet Shop Bakery and the Village Florist and can also be purchase by visiting the Shepherdstown Men’s Club web page at www.SMC25443.org. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. on Friday evening with an opening reception for the Friday Painters annual art exhibit, a traditional part of the Back Alley Tour.

SMC President Mike Austin commented that the War Memorial Building itself has been “spruced up” in anticipation of the Tea Party, transformed the upper floor into a well-decorated tea parlor.

The theme for this year will be “birds and bees.” The event occurs at the high point of the spring honey flow.

“Although the number of sites on the tour is expanded significantly from past years, participants will be able to enjoy much more as they leisurely stroll about the town. Mother Nature has decided to cooperate at last and many gardeners and volunteers are working overtime to get their yards and gardens into shape,” Austin said in a press release.
