Summer allows for exciting activities in Shepherdstown

By Staff | Jun 10, 2011

Summer is officially upon us.

The temperatures have been scorching for days, and kids are out of school – embarking, no doubt, on what they hope to be the best summer yet.

And Shepherdstown is rife with activities for locals – young and old – to occupy themselves and fill their calendars. Before they know it, the leaves will be changing color and falling along the streets of our historic downtown.

There is the annual community picnic on June 15 at Morgans Grove Park, and, of course, who can forget Street Fest? After a year absence of the popular festival, vendors and music acts will hit downtown Shepherdstown again June 25.

The July 4 parade and picnic, put on by the Shepherdstown Rotary Club, promises to be a hit, and just days after that the anticipated 21st season of the Contemporary American Theater Festival will commence.

The company was welcomed with open arms earlier this week to begin rehearsals for the festival, which will take place July 8 through 31. And you better purchase your tickets now. Shows are selling out quickly.

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the annual Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department carnival happening July 18 through 23.

There is never a dull moment in Shepherdstown. The town, a little less populated during the summer, is no less exciting.
