Audubon to hold birding trip

By Staff | Jul 8, 2011

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is sponsoring a birding trip to the Shannondale Springs Wildlife Management Area on Wednesday, July 20.

The trip is free and anyone with an interest is welcome to come along.

The trip will begin at 6:30 a.m. and will require pre-registration. To preregister and arrange a meeting place contact trip leader Sandy Sagalkin at 240-291-6465 or mon sansagalkin@myactv.net.

The Shannondale Springs property is managed by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. Its 1,361 acres include a mixture of forest, brush land and open fields covering rolling hills. At this time of year, it should offer good opportunities to see warblers, vireos, orioles and flycatchers, as well as year-round birds.

The trip will involve walking about two miles over mostly level ground, although some hilly, uneven terrain will be encountered.

In case of inclement weather, contact the trip leader to see if the trip is still on. Various details of the trip could change depending on weather and recent bird sightings.
