‘Race for the Ribbon’ event on tap

CHARLES TOWN – For the third consecutive year, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races is partnering up with the West Virginia affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation to present the “Race for the Ribbon” on Sept. 17 to benefit breast cancer research.

The “Race for the Ribbon” along with a showcase of 10 other races will total over $750,000 in purses for the day.

Each $25 donation made by participants of the breast cancer walk will come with a commemorative T-shirt.

A pink lemonade stand, silent auction and pink hat contest will be held on property. The patron wearing the best pink hat will be awarded a cash prize of $500.

The night of racing will include the $75,000 Pink Ribbon race for fillies & mares and will be punctuated by the third running of the $400,000 Charles Town Oaks for three-year-old fillies.

The events on Sept. 17 will include:

10:30 a.m. – Registration for the walk around the track

Noon Breast cancer walk around the track (weather permitting)

5 p.m. Start of silent auction

6 p.m. Post time for the first race

8 p.m. Judging for Pink Hat Contest, with $500 prize to the winner

9 p.m. The $75,000 Pink Ribbon race for fillies and mares

10:30 p.m. The $400,000 Charles Town Oaks.
