Eaton places in top three in tournament
VIENNA – Shepherdstown’s Kimberly Eaton, who was named 2011 NCAA Division III Player of the Year, made a solid third place finish in the West Virginia Women’s Amateur Championship last week at Parkersburg Country Club. Eaton made a strong charge on the front nine, going 4-under through the first six holes. Eaton was named the flight winner for the Championship Flight.
She was strokes behind Follansbee’s Samantha DiDomenico and Ona’s Brooke Bellomy.
DiDomenico, a Marshall University golfer, won her first West Virginia Women’s Amateur Championship by shooting a blistering 10-under-par 212 for the tournament, defeating Bellomy by just one stroke. In addition to Runner-up, Bellomy is also the Low Junior Medalist for the 88th edition of the Women’s Amateur.
Defending Champion, Nicolle Flood-Sawczyszyn finished the tournament in fourth place, going 2-under-par during today’s round and 4-under for the tournament, becoming Runner-up for the Championship Flight.
Also making a noteworthy charge today was Parkersburg’s Sue Goldcamp, who was 4-under-par through the first nine holes, finishing the day 2-under and in sixth place overall. Goldcamp was also the Roger Dean recipient – the Low Net winner at 204 for the tournament. 2011 Women’s Senior Amateur Champion, Caroline Ramsey, of Bridgeport, was the Low Senior Medalist, finishing 7-over-par for the tournament.
After a four-hole playoff, Bridgeport’s Deb Reif won the First Flight, while 2011 Women’s Senior Amateur runner-up, Claytina Shepherd, was Runner-up for the First Flight. Laurie Quinn, of Middleburg, Va., is the Second Flight winner, while Vienna’s Susan Rogers was its Runner-up.
