CHARLESTON -The West Virginia Golf Association has selected its 2011 team for the USGA Women’s State Team Matches.

This year’s members of the West Virginia team will be Shepherdstown’s Kimberly Eaton, Morgantown’s Nicolle Flood-Sawczyszyn and Bridgeport’s Caroline Ramsey. The team was selected based on this year’s Women’s Player of the Year points standings and half of last year’s Player of the Year points standings.

This year, Eaton finished in third place at the WV Women’s Amateur at Parkersburg Country Club and was its Championship Flight winner. She finished fourth in last year’s Championship at The Pines Country Club in Morgantown. Eaton was also named the 2011 Ping/National Golf Coaches Association (NCGA) Division III Player of the Year; she was a member of Wellesley College’s golf team. She was presented her award earlier this year at the NCAA Championships in Florida.

Flood-Sawczyszyn, who is a former member of the LPGA Futures Tour, has since reinstated her amateur status and resides in Morgantown, where she has won three consecutive WV Women’s Amateur Championships (2008-2010), including last year’s at her home course. This year, Flood-Sawczyszyn finished in fourth place at the WV Women’s Amateur and took home the Championship Flight Runner-Up award. She was also the 2010 WVGA Women’s Player of the Year.

The final member of the West Virginia team has had no shortage of success over the years.

Ramsey has won the WV Women’s Amateur four times (1969, 1975, 2001, 2002) and the WV Women’s Senior an astounding 11 times out of the last 14 years, only being defeated in 2002, 2005 and 2007. Ramsey has also won the Women’s Flight of the Wendy’s Amateur Tour three times this year at Pete Dye Golf Club, Stonewall Resort and Bridgeport Country Club. She was the 2010 WVGA Women’s Senior Player of the Year.

The 2011 USGA Women’s State Team Matches are slated for Oct. 4 through 6 at The Landings Club in Savannah, Ga. For more information on the Women’s State Team Matches, visit visit www.usga.org.
