Men’s soccer drops game
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Michael Spadine scored a goal and assisted on another to lead host Le Moyne to a 2-0 win over Shepherd University in men’s soccer action in the season opener for both teams.
Spadine scored at the 4:04 mark on a cross from Emmanuel Chanelo to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead at the break. He later fed Camden Bushden at the 50:45 mark.
Le Moyne (1-0) had a 10-4 edge in shots and an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Edgar Lopez Zuniga posted two saves for the Rams, while Matthew Silva had a save for the Dolphins.
Days later, on Sunday, Sept. 4, junior forward Shane Lowery assisted on a goal and later scored the game-winner to lift Shepherd to a 2-1 win over Tusculum in men’s soccer action at Shepherd.
Sophomore forward Kevin Doyle scored on a volley off a throw-in by Lowery in the second minute to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
Tusculum answered back in the 17th minute when Javier Portulo scored on an assist from Brandon Burney.
Lowery tallied the game-winner in the 58th minute on a pass from freshman defender Michael Cella.
Zuniga had seven saves for the Rams, while Andy Goellner had six saves for the Pioneers.
Shepherd improves to 1-1, while Tusculum drops to 0-2.
The Rams returned to action on Wednesday, Sept. 7 when they host Gannon. Information was not available by press time.
