Shepherd presents flute workshop
The Shepherd University Department of Music announces the Flute Pro Shop with Joan Sparks on Wednesday, Sept. 14 beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Frank Center. Flutists of all ages and levels are invited to come to Shepherd to try out flutes, head-joints, and piccolos, or purchase music and flute accessories. David Kee, flute and saxophone repair specialist at the Flute Pro Shop, will accompany Sparks. Sparks will give a presentation on flute manufacturing from 1 to 2 p.m.
Sparks holds music performance degrees from the University of Delaware and Temple University, where she studied with Murray Panitz. Early in her career, she frequently performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Delaware Symphony, the Bethlehem Bach Festival Orchestra, the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra and the Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra. Paired with harpist Anne Sullivan, Sparks created the award-winning flute and harp duo, SPARX. Sparks brings her experience to the Flute Pro Shop in product selection, student clinics and coaching.
