Men’s soccer wins, loses one

Robbie Bennett recorded a hat trick to lift Gannon to a 3-1 win over Shepherd University in men’s soccer action at Shippensburg on Aug. 7.

Junior forward Shane Lowery (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) scored Shepherd’s only goal on an assist from freshman Max Psillas (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) at the 48:24 mark.

Gannon got assists from Ross Matthews and Marnix van der Donk.

Shepherd had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks, while Gannon had a 20-15 edge in shots.

Senior goalkeeper Edgar Lopez Zuniga (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) had five saves for the Rams, while Michael Kickel had seven saves for Gannon.

Shepherd falls to 1-2-0, while Gannon improves to 1-2-0.

Shepherd then battled with University of District of Columbia to a scoreless tie in men’s soccer action at UDC on Tuesday.

No game statistics are available.

Shepherd moves to 1-3-1, while UDC is now 2-0-1. The Rams returned to action on Thursday when they traveled to Mercyhurst for a 2 p.m. contest. No information was available by press time.
