Men’s soccer falls to fifth ranked Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. Billy Colton scored a pair of goals to lead fifth-ranked Mercyhurst College to a 2-0 win over Shepherd University in men’s soccer action at Mercyhurst on Thursday afternoon.

Colton scored on a cross from Fernando Martinez at the 4:47 mark to give Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead going the break.

Colton added an insurance goal in the 65th minute on a penalty kick.

Mercyhurst had a 18-14 advantage in shots and just an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Edgar Lopez Zuniga (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) had five saves for the Rams, while Diego Gustin had six saves for the Lakers.

Shepherd falls to 1-4-1, while Mercyhurst improves to 5-0-0. The Rams return to action on next Wednesday when they travel to Washington Adventist for a 5 p.m. contest.
