250th anniversary events kick off Nov. 25
The Shepherdstown 250 committee continues to work with community members, businesses and organizations as the launch of the town’s semiquincentennial celebration is just over two months away.
Chair Meredith Wait said the year-long celebration of the town’s 1762 charter has been in the works since August 2010 with approximately 75 volunteers contributing to the cause.
“This has become truly a community-based labor of love,” Wait said.
The first of the Shepherdstown 250 events kicked off on Sept. 17 with the Shepherd University Friends of Music Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra concert at the Frank Center. Wait said more are to come throughout the year.
The anniversary committee even formed a partnership with Shepherd, in which the university will design and distribute paraphernalia, including T-shirts, mugs and hats with the Shepherdstown 250 logo on it, from the Shepherd website.
The celebration is set to kickoff at 6 p.m. on Nov. 25 at the Christmas in Shepherdstown festivities, according to Peter Smith, steering committee chair of signature events and legacy for Shepherdstown 250.
