Heritage to be celebrated
Shepherd University’s Appalachian Heritage Writer in residence series of events will take place Sept. 26 through Oct. 14.
Ron Rash is the 2011 Appalachian Heritage Writer being featured.
An Appalachian photo exhibit will be featured in the Scarborough Library through Oct. 14.
“Burning Bright: The Language and Storytelling of Appalachia and the Poetry and Prose of Ron Rash” will kick off Monday evening with the screening of the film, “Appalachia: Power and Place” at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Hall.
Shepherd’s events will also include a reception on Tuesday for an anthology dedicated to the work of Appalachian writers and photographers called “A Celebration of Appalachian Storytellers: A Carolina Muse”at 7 p.m. in the Byrd Center for Legislative Studies.
Writer in residence Rash will discuss his works and his writing process at a workshop on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Byrd Center.
On Thursday evening Rash will receive the Appalachian Heritage writer’s award and present his keynote address at an event being held in the Erma Ora Byrd Hall at 8 p.m.
Events will culminate Friday and Saturday night with the annual Appalachian Heritage Concert sponsored by Shepherd University’s Performing Arts Series.
