Men’s soccer knocks off Concord
Junior forward Shane Lowery (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) scored a pair of goals to lead Shepherd University to a 5-3 win over Concord in WVIAC men’s soccer action at Shepherd on Saturday.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Kyle
Ransom (Shepherdstown/Jefferson) at the 14:10 mark. Iavn Deyanov scored at the 27:03 mark for Concord as the game was tied at 1-1 at the half.
The Rams netted three consecutive goals over a nine minute period to pull away in the second half. Sophomore forward Kevin Doyle (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County), Lowery, and senior Alex Cruz (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) scored to give the Rams a 4-1 lead.
Concord added goals by Jacob Wise and Garith Duncan and Lowery tacked on his second goal of the afternoon to complete the scoring.
Shepherd had a 19-10 advantage in shots, while Concord had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Edgar Lopez Zuniga (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) had two saves for the Rams, while Ryan Gustavel had a pair of saves for the Mountain Lions.
Shepherd improves to 3-4-1, 1-1-0 in WVIAC action, while Concord drops to 0-7-0, 0-3-0. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a 5 p.m. contest.
