Women’s soccer blanks Concord
Freshman midfielder Kelsey J. Smith (York, Pa./Central York) and junior defender/midfielder Samantha Pippin (Odenton, Md./Arundel) each scored a goal to help lead Shepherd University to a 2-0 win over Concord in WVIAC women’s soccer action at Shepherd on Saturday.
Smith scored on a feed from junior defender/midfielder Erika Martin (Germantown, Md./Northwest) at the 16:09 mark to give the Rams a 1-0 lead at the break.
Pippin scored on a header off a corner kick from freshman midfielder Lexi
Vondrak (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) at the 50:38 mark.
Shepherd had an 23-14 edge in shots and a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Tessa Jones (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) had 11 saves for the Rams, while Kacey Hildebrand had 11 saves for Concord.
Shepherd improves to 4-4 overall, 2-0 in WVIAC action, while Concord drops to 1-6-0, 1-3-0. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a 3 p.m. contest.
