ELKINS, W.Va. – Freshman midfielder Kelsey J. Smith (York, Pa./Central York) and sophomore forward Morgan Gabriel (Egg Harbor, N.J./Holy Spirit) each scored goals to lift Shepherd University to a 2-1 win over Davis & Elkins in WVIAC women’s soccer action at Davis & Elkins on Wednesday.

Smith scored the game’s first goal midway through the second half on an assist from junior defender/midfielder Erika Martin (Germantown, Md./Northwest).

The Rams built a 2-0 lead on an unassisted tally from Gabriel minutes later.

Sarah Fyock scored for the Senators late in the contest to avoid the shutout.

The Senators had a 13-7 shots advantage and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Tessa Jones (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) had two saves in goal for the Rams, while Ashley Winkelspecht was without a save for the Senators.

Shepherd improves to 5-4 overall, 3-0 in conference play, while Davis & Elkins falls to 2-5, 1-2. The Rams return to action next Wednesday when they host Wheeling Jesuit for a 1 p.m. contest.
