Mammogram clinics on tap
MARTINSBURG – October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “Together We Can Knock Out Breast Cancer” is the theme for West Virginia University Hospitals-East’s upcoming discount mammogram clinics at both City Hospital in Martinsburg and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.
These clinics will be held from 7:30 a.m. until noon for three consecutive Saturdays at City Hospital on Oct. 1, 8 and 15. Jefferson Memorial Hospital’s new Women’s Imaging Center will hold clinics from 8 a.m. until 3:30 pm on Oct. 8 and 22.
These screening mammograms, featuring digital technology, will be offered at a discounted community service fee of $60 (cash, check or credit card only,) which includes the test and the interpretation by a radiologist.
“This is the third year that we’ve offered our discount mammogram clinics, and over that period of time we have performed nearly 500 screenings,” said Teresa McCabe, vice president of marketing and development for WVU Hospitals-East, in a press release. “Many of these patients told us they couldn’t afford the test and would have put off scheduling a
mammogram had we not held the clinics,” she added.
WVUH-East’s discounted mammogram program is open to anyone age 35 and older. Although a physician’s order is not required to participate in the mammogram clinics, any patients without a physician will be assigned a physician to receive the test results.
All patients participating in the screening mammogram clinics must register in advance.
