HEPC to hold forum at Shepherd
Shepherd University will host and sponsor a Learning and Accountability Regional Public Forum as part of a series of forums to be held across the state, sponsored by the Higher Education Policy Commission.
The forums are aimed at assessing higher education’s progress in meeting the goals and objectives as outlined in Charting the Future 2007-2012: A Master Plan for West Virginia Higher Education.The forum will provide an opportunity to receive feedback regarding learning and accountability in the state’s higher education system from community members, higher education officials, and state policymakers. The forum will include a panel discussion featuring institutional and community leaders and active audience participation will be encouraged.
Shepherd President Suzanne Shipley will provide a welcome and the commission Chancellor Brian Noland will provide an overview of the master plan, which will be followed by a panel. Panelists will include Monica Lockett, administrator, Canterbury Center; Laura Renninger, Dean of Teaching, Learning, and Instructional Resources, Shepherd University; and Nelson Smith, former president/Chief Operating Officer and senior advisor, National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. Jenny Allen, a member of the commission, will provide concluding remarks.
The event will take place Friday, Oct.r 14 from 10 a.m. to noon with a Community Engagement Workshop to follow at 1 p.m.
