Old-fashioned Christmas events on tap
Jackie Lewis, Greentree Realty owner and broker, announces several contests celebrating an old-fashioned Christmas in Shepherdstown and the 250th anniversary of the town.
Lewis would like the townspeople to step back in time and decorate the old-fashioned way starting with the two weekends of Christmas in Shepherdstown, Nov. 25 through 27 and Dec. 2 and 3.
Deck the doors with greenery, berries, fruits and all things natural; ornaments and other decorations are easily available. Be creative. Prizes of $100 each will be awarded for the best decorated business door and residential door in town.
Those with storefronts are invited to capture the 18th century with their decorating also. A cash prize of $100 will be awarded for the best themed window showcase.
Greentree Realty also invites local children under the age of 12 to make gingerbread houses. Greentree will display them in their window throughout the month of December. Deadline for entries is Dec. 2. Be sure and put names and phone numbers on the bottom so that they may be returned. House bases should be no larger than 12″x 12″. Prizes will be awarded for two separate age groups, 5 to 9 year olds and 10 to 12 year olds. First place will be awarded $25, $15 to second place and $10 to third place. A special grand prize of $100 will be awarded for the best replica of a Shepherdstown building.
The public can cast their vote on the best doors, windows and gingerbread houses, in ballot boxes conveniently located around the town. More details to follow in the coming weeks.
