As part of its free lecture series, the Scarborough Society of Shepherd University will sponsor a program featuring Shepherd faculty member Kevin Williams on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Scarborough Library reading room. Williams will discuss his new book, Why I (Still) Want My MTV. The program is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the lecture.

Williams’ book discusses the history of MTV and its role in immersing radio and television into one specific art form and delves into other factors surrounding the birth of music television and the history of style and perception. The book has received favorable review from Communication Research Trends.

Williams is chair of Shepherd’s Department of Communication. He holds degrees in fine arts and communication along with a doctorate in the philosophy of communication from Ohio University. His academic work includes media studies and digital media production. Williams has published books and journal articles on music video, Frank Herbert’s Dune, scuba diving and new technology.

The Scarborough Society is a friends of the library organization established in 2002 by the Shepherd University Foundation. Its annual membership dues help support library acquisitions, technology and programs. Membership is open to all interested supporters of the Scarborough Library.
