SU volleyball hands WV State a 3-1 setback

Sophomore middle hitter Meg Kenny (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) recorded a match-high 16 kills with a .737 attack percentage to lead Shepherd University to a 3-1 victory over West Virginia State in WVIAC volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Friday night. The Rams gained a 17-25, 27-25, 25-13, 25-17 victory.

Junior outside hitter Lauren Gardner (Clarkson, MI/Clarkson) recorded a

double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Melanie Lewis (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) also added 11 kills, while junior outside hitter Kasey Mercier (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) posted 15 digs and freshman setter/defensive specialist Taylor Belella (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg) added 12.

Senior setter Lauren Jeschelnik (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) turned in an

impressive all-around effort with 35 assists, six aces, five kills, and five digs.

Anneelise Albrecht had 10 kills and 11 digs to lead the Yellow Jackets.

Shepherd improves to 12-10 overall, 5-2 in WVIAC play, while West Virginia State falls to 7-8, 3-3. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host
