UPJ downs SU volleyball
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Pitt-Johnstown recorded a 3-2 victory over Shepherd University in WVIAC volleyball action at UPJ on Tuesday night. The Mountain Cats gained a 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-13 win over the Rams.
Junior outside hitter Kasey Mercier (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) had 14 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore middle hitter Meg Kenny (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) recorded 10 kills and six digs to lead the Rams.
Senior setter Lauren Jeschelnik (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) recorded 34 assists, 10 digs, and four blocks. Freshman setter/defensive specialist Taylor Belella (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg) contributed 13 digs.
Junior outside hitter Lauren Gardner (Clarkson, MI/Clarkson) recorded 13 digs and junior setter Sara Michael (Winchester, VA/James Wood/HCC) added 10 assists and 11 digs.
Jessica Heidenthal had 19 kills to lead UPJ.
Shepherd falls to 13-11 overall, 6-3 in WVIAC play, while Pitt-Johnstown improves to 8-13, 5-5. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan for a 6 p.m. match.
