Wesleyan edges SU volleyball

Shepherd University dropped a 3-2 decision to West Virginia Wesleyan in WVIAC volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday night. The Bobcats gained a 27-25, 20-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-13 win.

Sophomore middle hitter Meg Kenny (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) recorded 15 kills and sophomore middle hitter Melani Lewis (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) added 14 to lead the Rams.

Junior outside hitter Lauren Gardner (Clarkson, MI/Clarkson) added eight kills and 24 digs. Junior outside hitter Kasey Mercier(Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) had seven kills and 14 digs.

Senior setter Lauren Jeschelnik (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) recorded 45 assists and 10 digs, while freshman setter/defensive specialist Taylor Belella (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg) contributed 14 digs.

Shepherd falls to 13-12 overall, 6-4 in WVIAC play, while West Virginia Wesleyan improves to 16-8, 8-2. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Ohio Valley for a 4 p.m. match.
